Year In China Program 中国年项目

Information about the Year In China Program for potential scholars and their families.
The Year In China program is a 12  month  educational and cultural exchange experience designed to encourage young Australian secondary school graduates who have studied Chinese to develop a life-long interest and involvement in Australia - China relations.  The program aims at providing those secondary school graduates who have a superior level of Chinese linguistic ability with an opportunity to attend a Chinese university for a year.  The program is partly funded by the Australia China Council supported and managed by Youth Development Australia (YDA) In the 2007 there are 5 full scholarships made available as well as part scholarships and some fee paying students. All scholars are selected through a competitive process of interviews that assessed their Chinese language skills and their maturity and suitability to undertake the program.

Follow this link to see the selection criteria.

The Year In China scholars undertake 2 semesters of intensive language classes at Zheijiang University, Hangzhou in eastern China.

From past experience we expect that every scholar will return to Australia speaking fluently, after all you will be studying Chinese every day.  Last year, some students passed the Chinese HSK exam, which is the matriculation examination for entrance into Chinese universities. That is a high benchmark and one that probably no-one aspired to in the first month they were in China.
