Psychology of Chinese Youth
The First Lecture for 2005 “Year In China” StudentsToday we had the first of a series of Intercultural Exchange Lectures for “Year In China” Program Students. The lecture was held at the Center for Youth Development China-Australia and attended by all of the 10 Australian Year in China Scholars. The lecture was presented by Wang Ni a staff member from the Liaoning Academy of Social Sciences (LASS). Wang Ni is the Secretary-General of Shenyang Association of Psychological Counselors. Her main research direction is on adolescent problems, especially students with learning disorders particularly Sensory Integration Disorder (SID). The topic of todays lecture was the 'Psychology of Chinese Youth' presented in both in English and Chinese.
The students enjoyed the lecture and it promoted extensive discussion and debate between them on the differences between Chinese and Australian youths based on their own observations. Liam thought that there is not too much difference overall between Chinese and Australian youths. Where as Isaac thought Chinese youths are more shy, and Shannon thought that Chinese youths are more quiet, harder working and more hospitable.
This was the first lecture for the 2005 “Year in China” Program students, the students appreciated it very much and hope that future lectures will be in Chinese. Following the lecture the students and the staff from the Center for Youth Development China-Australia had diner together and everyone had a fun time.
